It's difficult to imagine waking from a euphoric dream, only to find life has become a never-ending nightmare, isn't it?

Hillary Clinton and John McCain say the government should stop collecting taxes on gasoline purchases for the summer in order to reduce prices. Barack Obama says it's a cheap-trick that will only save you $28 in three months.
Far be it from us to interfere with the readers' right to take whatever view of that issue they please.

They call Southwestern College the "University of Second Chances," a place where good things can happen for people with the right attitude and some ambition.
This week the editorial board of the Sun would like to recognize a cross-section of people and programs that are finding and facilitating success.

Southwestern's coffee drinkers have spoken. Now it remains to be seen if the ASO will listen.
More than 1,200 members of the campus community signed a petition in favor of giving the lease to the coffee cart near the Veterans Glen to Jason Brooks, manager of the Jimmy J's cart.

Want to know the truth about Operation Sudden Fall? I wouldn't ask the Drug Enforcement Administration, the national news or even Stephen Weber, all of whom have thrown the students of San Diego State under the bus.
Last Tuesday, authorities wrapped up a year-long undercover investigation that began after an SDSU student died of a drug overdose. University officials feared this case was indicative of a larger culture of illegal drug use and invited federal agents to infiltrate the student body.

A university is a brand, complete with an image that it sells to potential customers.
Well, it's damage control time. San Diego State's brand suffered a major disaster Tuesday, when "Operation Sudden Fall" caused the national image of SDSU to suddenly plummet.

Britney Spears has been granted a miracle.
Finally, there's someone for the media to now fall all over who's more screwed up than she is .
I'm sure it doesn't take a genius to guess the biggest mess in Hollywood, or rather the United Kingdom, and unfortunately she has to share my first name - Amy Winehouse.

A week ago, there was only one candidate running for student body president in the ASI election going on today, Wednesday and Thursday.
A week ago, I was ready to launch my campaign for Team W.H.I.T.E., aka We Hope I Take the Election. Appalled at the lack of competition for such an important role, I was ready to announce my own presidency and give the students a different choice.

It's difficult to digest that religious beliefs should stand in the way of one's ability to work in California, but they can.

Recently a reader commented on TheChaparral.com that he believed Republicans are voting for Obama because he can't beat McCain.
I value that opposing viewpoint, however divergent from reality it may be. I also value the truth though: so here it is. Rush Limbaugh, conservative demagogue extraordinaire, did in fact ask his followers to vote in Democratic primaries in his "Operation Chaos".

Miley Cyrus has recently apologized to her fans for her risqué photo spread in the upcoming issue of Vanity Fair, but these photographs may be a sign of things to come for the 15-year-old star of Disney's hit show "Hannah Montana."
The photograph that has caused the most uproar features Cyrus wrapped in a white sheet with her back exposed, making it appear as if she is topless.

My earliest memories are of Julie Andrews.
When I was 5 years old, my grandmother introduced me to "The Sound of Music."
I remember clutching my grandmother's copy of the movie, one VHS in the box and the other in the VCR, as I watched that iconic scene: an aerial shot of the Austrian countryside zooming in until the camera settled on a nun spinning with her arms open.

Society has an unhealthy obsession with shifting the blame.
It was bad enough a few decades ago, as parents and other authority figures freaked out over comic books "corrupting" children. Then it was rock music. Then video games. Now, they've moved on to bashing Web sites such as YouTube.

In the early morning of life, there were songbirds. In the evening, there's been mockingbirds. In our twilight, there will be nightingales.
And what do all of their tunes mean?
Well, I'd like to think of myself as constant progress, like a machine that keeps replacing its own rusty parts.

As American Gladiators Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama spar on their podiums for the Democratic nomination, it looks like Obama has a chance of falling.
Poll numbers differ when it comes to the closeness of the primary elections in North Carolina and Indiana after a week of troublesome press for the Obama campaign.

Every time I drive by the ARCO gas station on 68th Street, my stomach turns. Each day, I look at the listed gas prices, and each day the price for gas is raised 2 to 3 cents. Pennies may be pennies, but if you have to choose between groceries or gas to get yourself to work, those 2 to 3 cents become more than just chump change.
The speed at which gas prices are soaring has many consumers irritably stewing over questions such as, Why? What's the real cause? What is the government actually doing about it?

During my last month here at this beautiful Norwalk campus I find myself forced to come out. Out of my nice, un-opinionated shell that is, due to the fact that I happened across something that totally appalled me.
It left me saying, "Are you kidding me?"
Not to say that I am not easily appalled by today's twenty-somethings, but usually I can just shake my head, silently gasp, and ignore ignore ignore.

(5/11/08) -- "Hannah, I'm concerned about your cholesterol. Have you been eating Taco Bell and In-N-Out three meals a day, every day?" my doctor asked me. I looked at my athletic frame and wanted to deny the validity of my blood test. But when I really thought about my food intake, namely from Pitzer's dining hall selection, I had my answer - cheesy "ethnic" foods glazed with your choice of hoi sen or soy sauce, greasy hot dogs and pizza...
