Real meaning of Christmas lost in middle of distractions
By John Asbury
- < prev Page 2 of 2
It is because there is such pressure from our surroundings that the cheerful feelings may be lacking. Instead of focusing on what's missing we should be evaluating what this time means.
What makes Christmas such a glowing time for so many people are the feelings associated with the holiday. The people we spend the season with are the cause for the glowing sentiment and elation. Christmas is about spending time with the people you care about in an environment that's inviting and comforting.
Rather than consuming ourselves in the trudge of our daily lives, we should look to do everything we can to recreate this feeling and time. That doesn't mean surrounding ourselves in false Christmas cheer at the drop of a Santa hat, but we should set aside the trivial tasks and selfish worries to focus on the people in our lives and be thankful for what gifts we have.
In the meantime, pass the eggnog latte and enjoy Nick and Jessica's break-up holiday special, surrounded by your favorite dysfunctional family.
