The two-night festivity will celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Palomar College world dance program and the Afro-Cuban/Brazilian Drum and dance ensemble "Agogo" in Studio O2 (located across from the tennis courts).
"It's a way to thank students and faculty that have helped to the success of the program," said Patriceann Mead, Palomar College dance professor as well as founder and director of the world dance program.
"I have had the opportunity and honor to work with incredible and talented artists," Mead said.
The event is also a celebration to commemorate Mead's decenial anniversary dancing and instructing at Palomar.
Her idea for the celebration was in part for her love of the programs and her love of the music she said. Mead wants to transform the studio into a 1950s New York- style Latin club dancehall.
"I want to allow a party for students from all the world classes to come and dance," Mead said.
Live music will be provided by salsa band Luna Llena. But the evening will begin with traditional and popular Cuban music and dances including Franco Haitian, Rumba, Bantu, Yoruban Orisha and Casino.
Following, will be various Brazilian music and dances including Samba, Capoeira, Afoxe and Samba Reggae.
The evening will end with a salsa party, Mead said.
The audience won't be limited to watching the show, but will also be able to participate and dance as well. So bring your dancing shoes, Mead said.
"Noche Havana" will be catered by Oceanside's Cuban restaurant, Azafran. They will offer Cuban appetizers and beverages for a price.
"Noche Havana" was co-directed by Mead, Silfredo La O Vigo and Mark Lamson. The directors of the celebration have been working on the event since last May all the way through summer, said Mead.
"I'm hoping people will come out and celebrate with me," Mead said. "I just want it to be the weekend already!"
The party is open to the public but there will be limited seating. Tickets are $10 for students and $15 for general admission.
