By Sandra Chalmers
Taking an English class, math, and even political science this semester? Feeling a slave to the average General Ed classes? There are other options. Try a fun course that adds some excitement to your schedule with these top ten popular classes at Palomar.
From watching movies in Cinema 100, to taking pictures for homework in Photography 100, or even dancing to your favorite remixed tunes in Hip Hop 1, these classes can make school entertaining and fun.
Theses are the most popular classes to take at Palomar, according Dick Borden, a research analyst for institutional research and planning at Palomar College. He provided the statistics for the classes with the highest enrollment-outside of the required math, English and science courses- for the Fall 2007 semester.
The classes range from art to yoga, fashion to woodworking, and even hip-hop to ceramics. So what makes these classes praise worthy and in high demand?
"The teacher really makes the class more interesting," said Andy Seaton, 20, a current Art 100 student. "The students can really tell when the teacher has his heart in the class and Hudelson does," Andy continued to say about Mark Hudelson, one of the five teachers currently teaching Art 100 at Palomar.
"His class is really fun, it makes you want to plan a trip to Egypt and go on art adventures around the world!" said Malaina Turner, 19, another student of Hudelson.
Art 100 "Introduction to Art" is ranked No. 1, along side Cinema 100 at No. 2.
"All we do is watch movies in class and analyze them, it is really easy going," said Alex Ryan, 22, about his Cinema 100 course.
Further down the list is Photography 100. The course is concentrated on the fundamentals of photography, which include black and white photos, using the dark room and experimenting with light effects, according to student Rachel Azhadi.
Donna Cosentino, Azhadi's photography teacher, she mentioned was particularly "awesome."
With such a wide variety of unique popular course, Palomar is sure to offer something for everyone.
"It's an advantage that Palomar has, being able to offer fun classes to its students, I enjoy it," said Chelsea Cochran, a second year student at Palomar.
