Presidential Debate #1 9/26
By Maggie Avants
The first of three presidential debates of the season covered foreign policy and national security, which go hand in hand according to Jim Lehrer of PBS' "Newshour" and host of the debates.
Democratic candidate Barrack Obama kept trying to pin Republican opponent John McCain as a co-conspirator of the Bush Administration which resulted in a failed economy. If the only tactic that Obama can think of is to attach him to Bush, then that is telling America that there really is nothing else negative that can be said about McCain.
The debate instead was a showcase for McCain, painting him as a credible man that has spent over 27 years as a United States senator. And all that this experience can do is back him up as the most qualified candidate for president.
McCain said often throughout the debate, "I just don't think Senator Obama understands." This was a wise move on McCain's part because he exposed the inexperience of Obama to effectively perform all the aspects of the presidency.
McCain is well rounded both in foreign policy and national security. He is no stranger to traveling all over the world, and he has firsthand knowledge of the situations facing foreign countries.
McCain knows Washington inside and out, and I am tired of hearing that he is just another Bush. McCain is not another Bush because he has never been the president, but he IS running so that he can have a chance to DO things that he has never had the power to do as a senator.
What I did hear in the debate, though, was Obama flip-flopping all over the place. He said when he is president, he will attack Pakistan because that is where Bin Laden and al Qaeda are located, not in Iraq. When McCain chastised him for speaking strategy on public airwaves, Obama quickly took his statement back about invading Pakistan. This only helped prove again how inexperienced Obama is with foreign affairs.
Now I am not saying Obama is not a good man, and wouldn't make a good president someday. What I AM saying is that McCain deserves the job for now, it is his time. He has paid his dues in the senate and as a prisoner of war, and he truly cares about this country.

In Response to Jack Smith above:
Did you forget that the house and the senate have both been controlled by the democrats for some time now? They wouldn't even let any of Bush's proposals through. (Continued…)
