Velloni said she also plans on taking Counseling 115, which is a course provided at Palomar College that is designed to help students who are having

difficulty choosing a major.

Counseling Services Specialist Nicole Moreau said, there are three counseling sections in Career Counseling 115 the career search class. In the first session, students take two major, in-depth assessments that cover their personality type. The following two session include career activities. When they reach a career choice, they receive salary range information and a list of colleges that offer their programs. By the conclusion of the class their majors are usually decided.

Another program that helps students find their career interests is Palomar College's Regional Occupation Program. ROP offers free classes for students wanting to get into specific fields, such as air conditioning/heating and refrigeration, auto body, computer technology and culinary arts. In this program, students can learn about careers while earning certificates or associate's degrees.

"ROP has really high utilization in the community," Academic Department Assistant Brian Engleman said. "A lot of our advisers are people that are working in the industry who went through our program."

Romain agreed that ROP is a great example of the programs offered at Palomar. "Classes through ROP are free. They give you hands-on experience in the field," she said.

"Sometimes students may have an idea inside of them of what they want to do - they just need an external confirmation so they can get started on that journey," Romain said.
