Obama right on health care

We need universal healthcare - not some watered-down Republican imitation.

A big topic of discussion involving Barack Obama and John McCain is health care - ever an issue for voters and citizens of this country. Health care is way too expensive, and premiums have risen four times faster than wages over the past six years. The country has about 46 million people without health care - 8 million children. There also isn't enough money spent on health care for disease prevention. According to McCain's website, only four cents on every dollar in public health care is spent on prevention.

Both presidential candidates say they have health care plans that will benefit Americans. This has been said in the past, yet we still have no solution.

McCain's overall vision for health care is to create a system that everyone can afford and get treatment and preventive care. According to www.johnmccain.com, he wants to use competition to improve the quality of health care.

Everyone will get a tax credit - $2,500 for an individual person and $5,000 for families to help offset the cost of insurance. The family can then pick an insurance provider of their choice that suits their needs. In turn, the money that's left over will be put into a health savings account.

He intends to work with governors to develop a Guaranteed Access Plan for states to follow. McCain's Web site also states that he will work with government and state officials to make sure this procedure is adequately funded and that it follows the right procedure.

Obama plans to make a brand new national health plan that he says would benefit all Americans. This plan would also benefit self-employed and small businesses. This will allow Americans to afford health coverage similar to the plans available to U.S. congress officials. McCain has written on his website, that no one will be turned away from an insurance plan because of illness or a condition they already have.

Residents would have a health benefit package similar to the Federal Employees Health Benefits Program. This is the program that members of Congress have that covers all medical services, which includes preventive, maternity, and mental health care respectively.

Individual people and families who don't qualify for Medicaid or similar health plans and still need financial assistance will receive an income-related subsidy, to get in the new plan or purchase a private health care plan. According to Obama's website, people will be able to go from job to job and still keep the same health coverage.
