The Palomar Comets women's basketball team dominated the court Feb. 3 when it handily defeated the San Diego City College Knights 93-45 at the Dome.

The Comets improved to 16-5 on the season and 7-1 in Pacific Coast Conference games, while San Diego City dropped to 6-16, 3-6 in PCAC games.

Stephanie Bishop led the Comets with 21 points including five three-pointers, with six rebounds, and six assists. Lauren Matheney added 15 points, and Amber Glasser finished with 14. Overall, six Comets reached double figures.

Bethany Wong and Michelle Brown led the Knights with 13 points, and Shaelei Lucas added 12 of her own; but this night belonged to Palomar.

The Comets grabbed the lead early, playing solid defense while scoring all over the floor. They extended their lead to as much as 26 during a 19-0 run. The Knights' Molly Magee nailed a three-pointer to finally stop the bleeding.

City started to get its offense going but at the end of the first half Palomar still held a commanding lead, 42-19.

Women's head coach Sheri Jennum wasn't satisfied.

"They had five points with about five minutes to go in the first half, and they ended with 19," Jennum said. "That's not OK, that's too big of a run. Offensively I was really happy, but defensively we can't give people runs like that. That's not Palomar basketball."

Jennum's team heard her loud and clear, and the Comets came out more aggressive on defense in the second half.

"Our defense was a little off, but we stopped them, and our offense comes from our defense," said Palomar's Meagan O'Farrell.

O'Farrell contributed 13 points to the night, including three three-pointers, with eight rebounds and seven assists.

City had no answer for the Comets' aggressiveness; every shot and pass was contested, causing turnovers.

"We try to focus on defense all the time and today I think we really stepped it up," Bishop said.

Palomar increased its lead to 81-38 on a combination of jump shots and drives to the basket. By that point, the Comets knew the outcome of this one was all but decided.

After the game, Bishop acknowledged this game was all about teamwork.

"I think we had really good chemistry and we were just flowing. We gave a lot of compliments to each other so that really encouraged us to play better," she said.

Coach Jennum was quick to point out that despite the unbalanced score; this was a quality opponent to beat.

"We played them at their place [earlier in the season] and we only beat them by 17, and it was a good ballgame," she said. "We're just playing well right now. We really are, I'm really happy with the win."
